The Wizard of Oz: The Big Liar

"The Wizard of Oz" is a NON-CHRISTIAN classic children's tale, that my baby Camilla reminded me of by asking me to see with her completely a couple of days ago. "The Wizard of Oz" is the story of Dorothy who goes out to the field play with her dog Toto, and a tornado took her to a strange land. There she meets some strange friends that shared a deep wish. First, the Scarecrow, who wants to have a brain. Second, the Tin Man, who longs to have a heart. Third, the Lion who desperately wanted courage, and fourth the Wizard of Oz, an old man who known as "The Wizard of Oz", who was supposed to fulfill the wish of each, including Dorothy's of going back home in Kansas. We will see each character on one day this week and it will teach us important moments in our Christian walk.

Once Dorothy arrives to this strange land, she finds a "good witch" who tells her to NEVER remove her "ruby slippers" and that, in order to return home she needs to have a conversation with the great "Wizard of Oz" who lives in Emerald City, following the gold paved way and caring of the evil witch, who desperately wants her "ruby slippers".

Thousand of mishaps later... Dorothy reaches the Emerald City with the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion and her dog. It is of great confusion when the great "Wizard of Oz" tells them that in order to fulfill their desires, they must confront and defeat the "wicked witch"... the question of Dorothy's companions was: How could they do that without a brain, a heart and courage? With some difficulty, they face and defeat the "wicked witch" and all but Dorothy get their wishes.

How many times have you felt this way? You know you have a "ruby slippers"... a gift, a talent, an attribute... everyone wants it, but simply they "don't work" to achieve your will... It is not what YOU want. How many times have you felt surrounded by people that, instead of helping, it only seems to absorb all of you and you become their "savior"? How many times have you come to "emerald city" to meet a "magician" who has no solution? How many "golden roads"  has people painted in your life to only reach a lie, a worse situation... to reach the pain?

"The Great Wizard of Oz" is the Great Deceiver... It is the enemy of our souls, who so cunning and bold, painted "golden roads" to keep us entertained and busy, ignoring the most important things. He fills your life with the brightness of a path that promises to reach a happy ending and to meet with who "fixes everything". Someone told us, at some point that we have precious "ruby slippers", but we have not paid attention because we allow ourselves to be blinded by the brightness of "the way".

In the Bible we also find a similar story... The true story of the "Wizard of Oz"... Satan... Who from the beginning of the world has painted yellow roads, to make us believe they are golden roads... Full of promises and no wins... All full of dreams that never come to happen.

1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’? ”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.
5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Isn't it like Dorothy's story? "You will not die"... "Your eyes will be opened"... "You shall know good and evil"... "You will be like God"... Still do not see the relationship with you? "You won't get cancer"... "You won't get pregnant"... "No one will notice"... "A little more of candy won't make you fat"... "It's just a little white lie"... "A Sunday without going to church is nothing"... "It's not gossip, it's just your opinion"... The list goes on.

Satan is the "Wizard of Oz" who, with a highly effective technique paints yellow roads that go nowhere... We get confused and our eyes see a golden path to the fulfillment of our dreams... You wanted a definition of sin? There you... Sin are the paths created by Satan to bring us into his very presence, with the delusion that we'll get everything we always wanted... His technique? Half-truths... The gray... Personal opinions... "My way of seeing things"... The "I don't share"... The "I disagree because I see it different"... "I have an open mind"... Run for your life because, little by little, you'll be blinded and walking towards "Emerald City", forgetting that God has given you beautiful "ruby slippers"...

Do not believe Satan ... The Bible calls him "Father of lies" ... Wrong is wrong and good is good ... It is not true that in all good, there is some bad and in all bad, there's some good. That is the Eastern philosophy of Yin Yang... Re-read the passage in Genesis... How does the story end? Still haven't finished, but is full of pain, shame, murder, rape, death... and the worst, enmity with God. We continue making fig clothes to cover our fault and our shame.

I'll leave you with a message from Jesus:
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Where are you? ¿Heading to Emerald City? What color is the path you follow? And what about your "ruby slippers"? Are you wearing them or someone stole them?... Where does your footsteps lead? Do not be fooled... Only truth will set you free and the Wizard of Oz... well... he's just a big liar.

Want to go home? ... Tomorrow we'll see the first attribute you need to do so in "The Scarecrow: New Mind."

JUST SAYING!!!

God bless you,
